Craig's Camping Catastrophes

So yesterday we decided that we would go camping. I really like camping, but apparently I am somewhat accident prone. Rewind almost exactly 1 year...
Today we decided to go camping! We were pretty excited, but got kind of a late start. We decided to go to a campground inside Alta ski resort. We got there pretty late, paid our dues, and got to work. What's camping without a fire, right? So I got started making some kindling for the fire. A very short time into it, the knife slipped. I didn't cut myself, but banged my hand on the log I was shaving. Now I couldn't bend my thumb!? Weird.
We descended the mountain after paying for 20 minutes of camping. I later found that I had a huge sliver going at just the right angle by my joint to make it so it wouldn't bend.
Fast forward to present day...
So yesterday we decided that we would go camping. I really like camping, but apparently I am somewhat accident prone. We got all of our stuff together, made some delicious tin foil dinners, and were on our way. We decided to try the campground inside Alta again. We had only experienced it for 20 minutes last year...So we got all set up. Found out that Owen hates beanies. Ate some delicious food. Got all ready for bed.
I have an insulin pump which is connected to me constantly by taped tube in my leg. While I was pushing a log I felt the tape coming undone a little bit. As I was changing for bed, I checked it out to make sure it would be ok for the night. It was. So I pull my pajamas up and what happens? They get caught on the tape and pull the tube right out!
So this isn't a huge deal, I just hadn't brought any spares because we were camping for one night and it was about 40 minutes from the house. Without my pump in, I am fine for a couple of hours usually, but that won't last the night.
So once again we leave the Alta campground defeated after just a short time camping.
At least this year we got more than 20 minutes!

  1. Life's just not fair, is it? Someday Craig, someday, you'll have a fantastic camping trip with Owen sleeping on top of you because he's afraid of the tent (not that that's ever happened to me!).
